The play "Petrov's Flu" was penned by Cannes-nominated Kirill Serebrennikov and staged at The Gogol-Center Theatre concurrently with the filming of the movie adaptation. This theatrical production is based on the highly-discussed novel of the same name by Aleksei Salnikov.
"Petrov's Flu" is a highly unconventional story about a seemingly ordinary family. Petrov is an auto mechanic, Petrova is a librarian, and their son—also named Petrov—is a schoolboy. They live in Yekaterinburg, just like countless others. However, everything shifts when a flu epidemic descends upon them: in the feverish delirium brought on by the illness, reality distorts, revealing a world quite different from what the Petrov family and their surroundings are accustomed to. This ambitious adaptation breathes new life into one of the most extraordinary bestsellers of recent years, crafted by native Yekaterinburg writer Aleksei Salnikov.
Savva envisioned a surreal, flu-induced reality on stage, with a massive blue trolleybus transforming into a living apartment and library—becoming the central element of the performance. The staging was directed by Anton Fedorov.
