Dedication to Sergei Bodrov Jr. by director and playwright Savva Saveliev — theatrical reading of fragments from the script "The Link" as part of the project "Unfilmed Scripts."
Only a few takes remain from the second film by emerging director Sergei Bodrov Jr. The project was never realized — in September 2002, Bodrov tragically died in the Karmadon Gorge along with the filming crew. "The Link" is described by the director himself as "a philosophical-mystical parable about the lives of two friends." The screenplay is non-linear, with multiple parallel storylines and the inclusion of pseudo-documentary footage. In the dark urban fairy tale with bandits, shamans, and a clairvoyant boy, Bodrov was supposed to play Lesha, a garbage collector whose character concealed a secret agent.
Savva Saveliev: "I feel that after Bodrov Jr., Russian cinema has not produced a new hero. That’s why he and his on-screen characters (the most vivid of them, of course, being Danila Bagrov) still evoke great admiration. Bodrov’s honesty, simplicity, and talent are fully evident in his screenplay 'The Link.' I am confident that if the film had been made, it would have become a crucial work of the late 20th century alongside 'Pulp Fiction,' 'Raging Bull,' and, of course, 'Brother.' For me, this screenplay is about how a person can overcome everything. And it’s also about obsession with life. And that is the main theme in 'The Link'."
