Based on Qatari folklore, the audio play
"The Pearl Fisher" masterfully blends the finest traditions of Russian radio with a contemporary approach to crafting captivating stories.
The central character, Ali—a young pearl diver—embarks on a journey fraught with challenges, driven by perseverance and the strength of spirit in his quest for happiness and genuine friendship.
This production fuses tradition with innovation, creating a safe space where goodness prevails over evil, and belief in miracles can transform even the most daunting circumstances. Fairy tales are universal—timeless stories that transcend age, education, social background, and nationality. They carry us back to simpler times when dreams felt tangible, and everything was possible.
The original script, specially written for the (no)borders project, combined with superb acting and sound design, weaves an atmosphere akin to a parable—an enchanting tale that resonates deep within its listeners.
The story debuted on December 19, 2020, as part of the program "Fairy Morning" on Radio "Kultura," 91.6 FM, Moscow. Since 2021, it has been accessible on the international audiobook platform Storytel and online at
EastEast.world.
"Today, as the world faces unprecedented challenges—border closures, isolation—we believe it is our mission to support and promote a borderless culture. Recognizing the importance of restrictions, we also see how vital art and collective reflection are during this time of uncertainty, marking the end of a year filled with trials.
We wish to gift the Russian-speaking audience with an original work—a true Eastern fairy tale inspired by Qatari folklore. Our hope is that this story brings joy and a sense of celebration to both children and adults alike." — Anastasia Shavlokova, Head of the Cultural Creative Agency
“There is an enchanting journey into childhood, back to those forgotten sensations and the anticipation of celebration—woven through audio fairy tales. Whenever I recall childhood stories on vinyl records, a warm wave of nostalgia washes over me. The Pearl Fisher is a gift to children and their parents—a celebration crafted to delight as many minds and hearts as possible,”—says Savva Saveliev, Director of the audio play.
Legends and fairy tales belong to every culture—they serve as gateways into mythological worlds that mold and influence the character of nations. Qatari culture, rich with such stories, expands the boundaries of imagination, opening portals to metaphysical realms.
